ქ. ბათუმი, მემედ აბაშიძის ქუჩა N8
Batumi, Memed Abashidze Street No. 8
Brief description of the monument:
This two-story brick building was constructed in 1892 by the Chilingarian brothers. From 1922 until 2010, it housed the Turkish consulate.
The decorative features of the building display an eclectic character, primarily reflecting a Classical style enriched with elements typical of Baroque and Art Nouveau architecture. Slightly projecting risalits define the corners of the building, housing entrances—a stairway entrance on the left and a gated passageway on the right. On the right side, the risalit prominently projects at the second-floor level, forming an oriel (bay window) supported by decorative brackets.
Floors are separated by a dentil frieze. On the first floor, rustication adorns the corners and arched window frames, while the remaining surfaces are constructed of exposed brickwork. The second floor is devoid of rustication and features tall half-columns between window arches, crowned by an entablature and culminating in pediments atop the corner risalits. The building concludes with a segmented parapet composed of stone sections interconnected by ornamental metal railings.
Expertly constructed, the house harmoniously integrates into the street s dense architectural fabric. It is characterized by a blend of artistic elements drawn from multiple styles, including Classical, Baroque, and Art Nouveau. The artistic perception of the building is further enhanced by the interplay of textures, colors, and materials.
