Batumi, Memed Abashidze Street No. 49
Brief description of the monument:
This single-story building, constructed in the early 20th century, originally belonged to Bykov and was home to ophthalmologist Bershatsky. In 1922, it was transferred to the Education Workers Trade Union. From 1936, the building hosted puppet and youth theater performances. In 1980, it became the regular venue for the State Puppet Theater ensemble. Between 2011 and 2012, the building underwent reconstruction to adapt it as a contemporary theater space.
The artistic character of the building is defined by its intimate, chamber-like forms, refined proportions, and ornate window frames. A significant feature of the façade is the balcony, elegantly integrated into the perimeter of the building, with an oval opening and a decorative openwork railing. Designed in the Art Nouveau style, the building is distinguished by sophisticated craftsmanship and aesthetic finesse.
