Batumi, Vakhtang Gorgasali Street N56 / Luka Asatiani Street N38 / King Pharnavaz Street N71
Brief Description of the Building:
This large three-story residential building, constructed in 1935, exhibits stylistic features of Constructivism. The U-shaped building’s perimeter extends along three streets. Its wings, which stretch in the direction of the streets, are connected at the corner by a stairwell section that is slightly recessed and angular, creating a distinctive broken-line silhouette at that corner.
On the parapet of this angular corner, the construction date and a Soviet symbol—the hammer and sickle—are displayed. The building’s fragmented contour, the stairwell-connected wings, the rhythm of rectangular window and entrance openings, and the use of geometric decorative elements all link it to architectural examples typical of the 1930s.
