16 Luka Asatiani Street / 46 Memed Abashidze Street, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This two-story brick building with a high plinth (housing a basement) is located at the intersection of two streets. Its façade is designed in the Classical style with Baroque elements.
The two floors are separated by a cornice with a simple profile. Each floor’s decoration differs. The openings on the first floor are framed with prominent relief moldings. The lower parts of the windows are emphasized with rectangular recessed panels, while the upper parts feature keystones. The framing imitates rusticated stonework, alternating wide and narrow blocks.
The second floor is more restrained in design. A small metal balcony with ornate railing is placed in the central bay. The surface of this floor is horizontally grooved. Window openings are framed with simple moldings.
The building is crowned with a profiled cornice. A contemporary mansard has been added to the structure, clad with large rhombus-shaped metal tiles. Decorative brick dormers are integrated into the mansard, which itself is topped by a tall cornice.
This residential house is a typical example of a modest, early 20th-century urban dwelling. It fits harmoniously into the scale and character of this section of the street. Its Classical façade is enlivened by subtle Baroque elements.
