Building at Davit Klidashvili Street N7 / Vazha-Pshavela Street N11-13, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This two-story building, constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, has an L-shaped layout. Its side walls are made of blocks, which are crafted from Chorokh River gravel, characteristic of Batumi construction during this period. The street-facing wall is made of brick, while its plinth is built with stone. On the yard side, the house features a simple wooden balcony.
The building stands out with its high-quality construction, pleasant proportions, and the clear articulation of its façade. The second-floor windows are topped with distinct semi-circular brick arches. The façade is crowned with a cornice adorned with small spherical details.
Among the notable interior elements are the luxurious ceiling moldings, which are preserved in several rooms and the stairwell, as well as the mosaic floor in the central entrance, wall-mounted stoves, and the old doors of both entranceways. The spatial arrangement is particularly interesting due to the entrance and staircase area located on the right side of the house, where one flight of stone steps leads up to the second floor.
This house is a good example of early 20th-century Batumi residential architecture. It blends well into the historical development of Vazha-Pshavela Street and plays an essential role in shaping the architectural character of the area.
