34 Memed Abashidze Street / 16-18 Nodar Dumbadze Street, Batumi
Brief Description of the Monument:
This two-story building with a mansard roof, located at the corner of two streets, was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The façades are richly decorated with stucco elements, blending Renaissance-Baroque and modern styles. The corner of the building and its side sections are topped with domed spires. On both sides of the corner dome, there are high four-sloped roofs.
The surface of the first floor is treated with rusticated surfaces, and the openings are rhythmically arranged, with simple arches and decorative carvings on the upper parts. The second floor is more elaborately decorated with sculptural ornamentation, and the wall surfaces are divided by low rusticated sections. The windows are arranged in a consistent rhythm and are rectangular in shape.
The façade is crowned with a high, interrupted parapet, adorned with a row of small circles. Above the parapet is a high mansard, covered with fish scale-like tiles, with rectangular and arched windows. These windows are topped with triangular and arched pediments, adding to the decorative richness of the building.
The building has five entrances on the first floor. On the side of K. Gamsakhurdia Street, there is an entrance to the inner courtyard through a vaulted passage, which is topped with a metal balcony. The building has undergone multiple reconstructions, including in the mid-20th century and again between 2008-2010. Originally built as a two-story structure, a mansard roof with domes was added in recent years, and the façades were richly embellished with decorative elements.
From an urban planning perspective, the building plays a significant role as a dominant structure and organizing element in the development of the neighborhood.
