Batumi, Merab Kostava Street No. 5 / Noe Zhordania Street No. 6 / Kutaisi Street No. 8
Brief description of the monument:
This two-story brick building was constructed in 1895 by an individual named Tairov. Originally, the second floor housed the Hotel (Imperial.) Between 1918 and 1921, the building was purchased by Noe Sikharulidze, who renamed the hotel (Noe.) Notably, in 1924, the famous Russian poet Sergei Yesenin stayed at this hotel. In the 1930s, the second floor was occupied by the organization (Intourist) and its affiliated hotel (Internatsionali.) Today, the building’s second floor serves residential purposes, while the ground floor houses the restaurant (Munich.)
The building is significant due to its size and strategic location, forming an essential urban node within the district. Its façades face three streets (Merab Kostava, Kutaisi, and Noe Zhordania), occupying a prominent area. Door and window openings on both floors are predominantly rectangular. The walls between windows, constructed from brick, feature slightly projecting horizontal rows, breaking up the façade surface. Above the windows, the wall areas up to the cornice are decorated with rectangular flat niches.
The building is crowned with a parapet characterized by rectangular projections at intervals, each culminating in curved pediments. Similar architectural examples, varying slightly in detail and scale, can also be found on other streets throughout Batumi.
