Building at 63 26 May Street, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This house, constructed in 1905, faces the street with its main facade. Initially built as a one-story structure, it was later expanded to include a second floor. The two sections are designed differently. The original part, covered with rusticated imitation stone, features gently projecting risalits at the edges. The right side has an entrance to the yard, while the left side features the main entrance, which is adorned with sculpted heads of lions, people, and floral ornaments.
The addition, which is made from unplastered brick, is finished with brick-cast lintels, rectangular shapes, and a cornice. At the ends of the cornice, there are triangular motifs, with a three-part rectangular pediment in the center. Inside, the house is noted for its mosaic floor, decorative ceiling molding, and the metal latticework on the stairs’ railing.
The rear walls of the building have undergone changes due to later additions and alterations. Despite these modifications, the house is a typical example of its era and plays an important role in preserving the scale and historical character of this section of the street.
