Batumi, Iakob Gogebashvili Street N24 / Khulo Street N1
Brief Description of the Monument:
This building was constructed in 1905 by Pankentanian. It is a two-story, rectangular structure with its main, elongated façade facing I. Gogebashvili Street, its shorter side on Khulo Street, and the rear façade oriented toward Chkalov Street.
The main façade is symmetrically decorated, featuring Classical styling with some Baroque elements. The corners and central axis are marked with risalits (projecting sections), and the entrance door is placed within the central risalit.
The ground floor façade combines profiled stone bands with unplastered brickwork in alternating sections. The upper floor is designed using an architectural order system: a notional plinth runs along the base, followed by rounded pilasters at the corners, which support the entablature and cornice. Below the profiled cornice runs a row of dentils, while the risalit cornices are decorated with simple circular medallions.
The window shapes vary—in the risalits, they are rectangular, while in the intermediate wall sections they are arched. The central risalit is crowned with a mansard attic that features a pointed spire, covered with fish-scale-patterned metal sheeting.
The building’s other façades follow a similar design approach.
This is a large, stately structure with high artistic and architectural value.
