Building at Giorgi Mazniashvili Street N36, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This rectangular, three-story building with an attic was constructed in 1900. The main facade, which faces the street, is plastered and painted in a grayish color. The central part of the facade features a slightly projecting risalit, which is flanked by long and short metal, decorative iron balconies stacked one on top of the other. The balconies, as well as their curtains and the supporting brackets on the roofs, are made of intricate metalwork.
The architectural elements borrowed from Renaissance architecture include the arched window and door frames decorated with keystones and spandrels. The edges of the rectangular panels under the window sills are filled with floral ornaments, and there are horizontal friezes and a cornice supported by white-painted corbels.
The attic, covered with metal shingles, is topped with a dome-shaped roof at the center, aligned with the risalit s front line. On top of the parapet is an inscription identifying the owner of the house as Ettiene Allbetini.
The doorway in the risalit is equipped with a wooden, decoratively carved door, and inside the entrance hall, there is a decorative ceiling cornice and a metal balcony railing for the staircase. A narrow inner courtyard lies behind the building, with a vaulted archway running alongside the entrance hall.
The building’s rear facade has been completely altered due to later additions and modifications. Despite these changes, the building stands out in the dense development of the area and plays a significant role in shaping the architectural character of the street.
