Building at Giorgi Mazniashvili Street N68 / Ilia Chavchavadze Street N18, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This building, located at the intersection of Ilia Chavchavadze and General Mazniashvili Streets, was constructed in 1892. It is believed to have originally served a commercial function. The building’s original section is characterized by rectangular vitrines. The narrow central columns and the upper sections of the window openings are finished with plaster and painted in a yellowish-beige color.
The architectural décor is understated yet unique: the central columns are flanked by pilasters imitating rustic stone, with capitals designed in a wavy profile, embellished with plastically carved flowers resembling a wreath. Above the vitrines, rectangular shapes with rounded edges were likely used for placing advertising signs.
The building s corner, at the intersection of the streets, is marked by a half-column, which features a stylized Corinthian capital. On the side of General Mazniashvili Street, above the door, there is a floral ornament along with the year of construction.
The façade is completed with a profiled cornice. The building is a distinctive example of small-scale architecture in Batumi, with a unique approach to its façade. The structure also represents a modern adaptation and interpretation of a historical building, showing the evolution of architectural design in the area.
