Batumi, Kutaisi Street No. 4
Brief description of the monument:
This two-story stone house was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Though it has undergone alterations, its façade, decorated with Baroque elements, still carries a festive appearance. Most of the changes affected the ground floor, which was remodeled several years ago. The only original feature remaining on the first floor is the rectangular arched entrance to the courtyard, with the right corner finished in rusticated stone (similar rustication is also found on the right side of the building on the same floor).
The first and second floors were originally separated by a simple-profiled cornice, part of which has been preserved on the right side of the building. The original decorative detailing of the second-floor façade remains intact. The façade is divided by rectangular window and door openings, with varying textures of the wall surfaces—either smooth or roughened. The rectangular openings are flanked by stylized pilasters, and above them, they are topped with decorative cornices (sandrics), within which a decorative keystone is embedded.
The building is crowned with a projecting cornice, supported by decorative brackets. The lower part of the cornice is embellished with garlands.
Despite the modifications to the lower floor, the house still maintains its authenticity. It stands out as an interesting example of the coexistence of various architectural styles. In addition to its decorative features, the building is valuable as part of the dense urban fabric of the street, helping to define the scale of the area.
