Building at Dimitri Tavdadebuli Street N24 / Parnavaz Mepe Street N62, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This building, constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, is an example of a rental house. Located at the intersection of two streets, the main facade faces Dimitri Tavdadebuli Street. The building is made from natural stone and brick. Its design combines classical and baroque styles and the facades are rendered.
Architectural details such as the window profiles and decorative motifs are brought out in relief, using horizontal carving. The base of the facade, on the lower part, imitates rustication. Both floors of the facade are divided horizontally. The rhythmically arranged rectangular windows are framed with classical, profiled surrounds, featuring (rusticated stones) and horizontal lintels, along with other decorative details.
The entrance to the building is located at the right corner of the facade, facing Dimitri Tavdadebuli Street. On the side of Parnavaz Mepe Street, the building has a yard, separated from the street by a fence, and decorated with modernist style elements.
This residential building is notable for both its urban planning and artistic value. Its proportions and restrained ornamentation allow it to blend seamlessly into the surrounding development. The building belongs to the late 19th–early 20th century urban rental house type, characterized by its academic facade and ornamentation.
