Batumi, Zviad Gamsakhurdia Street N36 / Khulo Street N8
Brief Description of the Building:
This two-story house with Classicist-Baroque decorative elements was built in the late 19th century at the intersection of two streets. The construction material is block masonry, which has been plastered and painted.
The first floor is used for commercial purposes, while the second floor serves as a residential space. The ground level features large rectangular storefront windows, with an entrance door set into the chamfered corner façade. On the Z. Gamsakhurdia Street side, a metal-canopied door is positioned along the central axis. At the center of the Khulo Street façade, a rectangular tunnel entrance leads to the inner courtyard.
The building encloses the courtyard on all four sides. However, much of its original appearance has been lost, and its current condition is poor.
The second floor is divided by arched window openings. Between them are pilasters with fluting and Doric capitals, placed in an uneven rhythm. This level is topped with a frieze placed between two stringcourses and a parapet above. The balconies are made of metal, adorned with decorative wrought-iron railings.
Despite its deteriorated state, the building plays a notable role in defining the character and development of this particular street and neighborhood.
