Building at Giorgi Mazniashvili Street N62 / Revas Komakhidze Street N11, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This two-story house, likely built at the beginning of the 20th century, stands at the intersection of two streets. The first floor of the building has been partially renovated. Both facades of the house are divided by large, rectangular window openings. The walls are predominantly flat, with rusticated finishes applied only at the corners, doorways, and entryways to the yard.
The floors are separated by a simple frieze. The second floor is more elaborately designed than the first, with a decorative style that repeats across the facade. The window openings are similarly divided into rectangular sections, each adorned with identical decorative details. The decoration around the windows features step-like spiral bands that extend slightly outward at the top of the windows and are capped with semicircular arches and a six-pointed star in the center. Above these elements, the area is decorated with a pediment, featuring a lower terraced band with a stone-like decorative element and two arcs at the upper part.
The second floor is further accentuated by corner balconies, which extend along the corners of the building, with one balcony on each of the two facades. The building s corners are marked with canellured pilasters. The structure is finished with a simple-profile cornice, beneath which a frieze of teeth-like details is applied. The building is completed by a later-added mansard roof.
This house is interesting not only because of its location, which is pivotal for the urban development of the streets, but also due to its proportions and scale, as well as the unique decorative elements on the second-floor facade.
