Batumi, Vakhtang Gorgasali Street N30 / Konstantine Gamsakhurdia Street N33
Brief Description of the Building:
This two-story house in Constructivist style, located at the intersection of two streets, was built in 1929 based on a project by engineer Tsukanov. The construction materials used include reinforced concrete and block masonry. One façade faces Gamsakhurdia Street, while the other fronts Vakhtang Gorgasali Street.
At the corner where the two streets meet, the building slightly recedes, culminating at the second-floor level in a balcony with a sloped roof and a metal railing. The façades are plastered and painted. The first floor is divided by rectangular openings and is used for commercial purposes. The second floor also has rectangular windows, and each façade features three small suspended metal balconies.
The façades are undecorated, with the smooth walls painted yellow. The building has three entrance halls. On the right side of the Gorgasali Street façade, there is a tunnel entrance leading to the inner courtyard. The structure encloses the courtyard on two sides.
Despite some alterations, the courtyard-facing part of the building is well preserved, and its original appearance can still be easily envisioned. The building plays an important and active role in the development of this section of the city and stands as an example of early Soviet architecture—specifically, the Constructivist style.
