Building at 37 26 May Street, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This one-story residential house was constructed in 1894. The main facade, located at street level, is plastered and painted white. The left section of the facade is dedicated to the entrance, which is framed by a decorative wooden door and a metal, intricate latticework canopy. The facade is designed in a Classical style but stands out for its unique details. The rectangular window openings feature profiled lintels, with the upper sections adorned with an ornamental border resembling a rusticated stone finish. Above these, sculpted heads of men are also incorporated into the design.
The lower parts of the lintels rest on a projecting, window-unifying belt that is decorated with rectangular motifs filled with floral ornaments. The windows still retain their original wooden shutters and awnings. The facade is crowned with a parapet that is richly adorned with architectural elements, including the construction year of the house, marking it as 1894.
This house stands out for its individualized design and is an excellent example of late 19th-century urban heritage in Batumi. It reflects the artistic and architectural trends of the period, contributing to the city’s architectural identity.
