Address: Batumi, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia Street N34 / Parnavaz Mepe Street N46
Brief Description:
This two-story residential building, constructed in the early 20th century, is situated at the corner of two streets with a cut side. The building faces a yard that is enclosed from Parnavaz Mepe Street.
The eclectic, stylized façades on both streets are symmetrical. On the first floor, the commercial areas are marked by wide rectangular openings, divided by stylized rectangular pilasters. The second floor features lilting, framed windows with keystone surrounds, giving it a distinct architectural style.
At the corner, the building has a metal-railed angled balcony, supported by stylized, wave-like brackets. A similar type of balcony also faces Gamsakhurdia Street. The floors are divided by a belt-like cornice, and above the second floor, there is a profiled cornice with **steps.
The façades are plastered and painted with contrasting tones, with the walls in light shades and the architectural details in light yellow.
The house has an L-shaped layout. The yard s façade is originally covered with open gallery-balconies, but on one side, it has lost its original form due to a later extension. This side also has a later mansard. The second-floor gallery on the side is preserved with angled columns and metal railings. These columns support a relief frieze and low entablature, which in turn supports the overhanging terrace on the third floor. The terrace is also enclosed by metalwork railings with dome-like decorative patterns.
Later, the open terrace was roofed over with metal supports and asbestos cement tiles.
This building is a good example of early 20th-century architecture in Batumi, combining commercial and residential elements with a blend of architectural styles.
