Batumi, 47 Konstantine Gamsakhurdia Street / 16 Revaz Komakhidze Street
Brief Description of the Building:
This two-story corner house, likely built at the end of the 19th century, represents an elegant example of Classical architectural style. The main entrance is located on the left side of the building along Konstantine Gamsakhurdia Street. The arched doorway is framed by fluted pilasters that support an arch crowned with a pediment.
The ground floor is segmented by large rectangular openings (storefront windows), while the wall along Revaz Komakhidze Street is blind. On the second floor, both façades feature arched door and window openings. One window above the entrance on Gamsakhurdia Street, however, is rectangular and topped with a pediment.
The openings on the second floor are divided by flat pilasters that run the full height of the wall up to the cornice. On the Komakhidze Street side, the pilasters are topped with Corinthian capitals. It is likely that the pilasters on the Gamsakhurdia Street side originally featured the same capitals, although these are now hidden beneath layers of plaster.
The arched openings are framed with fluted pilasters, and the second floor includes cantilevered balconies with ornate wrought-iron railings. The building is topped with a profiled cornice, below which runs a dentil frieze, and finishes with a parapet.
This residential house stands out for its clean, balanced façades, well-proportioned form, and fine craftsmanship. As a corner structure, it plays a prominent role in the architectural composition of the surrounding urban fabric.
