Batumi, Vaja-Pshavela Street N44 / Vakhtang Gorgasali Street N62
Brief Description of the Building:
This residential house was built in 1904 by the merchant Alikhanov. It was originally surrounded by a citrus garden, which also contained auxiliary buildings for the servants. The one-story building faces Vaja-Pshavela Street with its main façade, while the yard is accessible from Vakhtang Gorgasali Street.
The architectural design of the façade is eclectic, incorporating motifs from Renaissance and Baroque styles. The profiled frames of the rectangular openings are adorned with keystone elements. Above the figurative decorations are small pediments (sandriks), while the cornice and pilasters—topped with composite capitals—are decorated with plant-inspired ornaments.
The entrance hall is especially notable for its artistic design: its walls and ceiling are painted with allegorical compositions representing the seasons, along with landscape scenes.
This intimate-scale building is a fine example of a Batumi-style residential house.
