Address: Batumi, Zurab Gorgiladze Street N32 / P. Melikishvili Street N37
Building Description
This two-story residential building, constructed in the early 20th century, is located at the intersection of two streets. The building is adorned with classical elements taken from classical repertoire. The facades are plastered and painted in white, with architectural details and profiles sculpted in plaster.
The P. Melikishvili Street side of the building is bordered by a yard, enclosed by a blind fence and an ornamental metal gate that faces the street. The building has two entrances, one on each side—one facing P. Melikishvili Street and the other on Zurab Gorgiladze Street. Both entrances are topped with ornamental metal roofs.
The first floor of the building has a surface worked with parallel grooves, while the second floor features rustic imitation decoration. The floors are separated by a profiled cornice. The windows on both floors are marked by horizontal bands, and the openings are framed with decorative moldings. Below each window, the facade is adorned with rectangular inserts filled with geometric shapes (such as circles and rectangles).
Above the second-floor windows, flat arches are supported by an architrave. The building is completed with a profiled cornice, beneath which a meander pattern runs along the facade. On the second floor, there are decorative metal balconies with a roof.
The fenced yard, with its metal ornamental gate, plays a crucial role in defining the building s appeal within the urban landscape, contributing significantly to the architectural character and historic charm of the neighborhood. This building is a prime example of early 20th-century residential architecture in Batumi, with its carefully crafted details and distinctive design.
