Building at Akhmed Melashvili Street N9 / Zviad Gamsakhurdia Street N10, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This two-story corner building, constructed at the turn of the 19th-20th century, is made of a combination of blocks and brick. The facades are decorated in a classical style. Entrance doors are located at the corners of the building. On Akhmed Melashvili Street, there is a gateway to the yard, with a metal arch gate, and adjacent to it is a wooden four-winged entrance door with decorative details.
The first floor is divided by large rectangular windows, with the central columns of the windows adorned with rusticated details. The second floor also features rectangular windows, each framed by smooth sills and topped with keystone stones. The door openings are flanked by semi-circular pilasters with an arch, while smooth pilasters continue on the central sections of the second floor.
The building also features hanging balconies at the corners, with the corner being rounded, and extending onto both streets. Notable architectural details include concentric circular designs executed in the facade s lower part under the balconies and a rosette on the ceiling of the entrance. The entire facade is topped with an overhanging cornice with a decorative profile. At the intersection of the streets, the building concludes with a mansard roof.
The classical-style decorative elements and the building’s scale integrate well with the surrounding neighborhood, making it an important part of the urban fabric.
