Building at Giorgi Mazniashvili Street N25 / Farnavaz Mepe Street N33, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This building was constructed in 1893 by the Italian merchant Saricic, who was involved in a lucrative business of transporting drinking water by ship from Batumi to Poti. At the beginning of the 20th century, the building housed the Italian diplomatic agency.
The two-story building with a mansard roof stands at the intersection of two streets. Its façade is divided by rectangular windows in a symmetrical arrangement and is made of unplastered brick. The brickwork is decorated with restrained architectural details, including window surrounds, recessed rectangular areas beneath the window sills, a horizontal belt between the floors, and a cornice adorned with dentil molding.
At the corner of the building, there is a rounded bay window with three arched openings, topped with a mansard roof and crowned with a spire. The house has three entrances: one on the corner façade, and two more on the side façades. All of them are closed with intricately decorated wooden doors.
During a recent restoration, the mansard s tin-covered roof was renovated, and the metal cornices around the windows were updated.
The building is one of Batumi s most distinctive historical structures. It plays a significant role in defining the scale of the two intersecting streets and contributes to their spatial organization.
