Building at Baku Street N32, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This three-story building, constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, is finished with stone cladding. The building s main facade faces I. Gogebashvili Street. The first floor is rectangular, while the second and third floors are divided by arched windows. The central sections of the first-floor walls are lined with pilasters made of rusticated stone, with one pilaster left out for each section. On the first floor, slightly to the left from the center, there is an arched entrance to the yard, which is equipped with a metal, decorative gate. On either side of the gate, there are entrance doors.
The windows on all three floors are framed with decorative surrounds, with the upper parts of the windows accented by rusticated stones. Along the row of rusticated pilasters on the first floor, as well as between the separating and finishing decorative belts of the facade, smooth pilasters are placed, each topped with Ionic capitals. On the second and third floors, four-window sections on the facade are accompanied by two-story hanging metal balconies.
The facade is finished with a projecting cornice, which is topped by a parapet wall. On the rear side of the building, the original appearance has been lost. The third floor was added several years ago, and extensions have been made on the yard side as well. Despite these changes, the original form of the building can still be discerned.
This building represents a blend of Renaissance and Baroque styles. It plays an important role in the urban landscape and historical character of the street and neighborhood.
