Batumi, Vakhtang Gorgasali Street N10
Brief Description of the Building:
This two-story brick house was built between 1905 and 1906. Its owner was a merchant, Serop Akinian, who used the first floor as a wholesale storage space and the second floor as a residence.
The first floor, divided by rectangular openings, is plastered and painted pink. The second floor remains unplastered, showcasing a decorative surface composed of two types of bricks—off-white and reddish. White bricks frame the windows, creating a striking visual effect with emphasized surrounds and lintels, while diamond shapes are formed beneath the windows using the same white bricks.
White bricks are also used on the parapets, dentil cornices, and around circular openings in the center of the parapets. Atop the building s corners, small gabled parapets feature oval openings that contain sculpted figures of boys playing pan flutes.
The house stands out for its artistic-architectural design and the refined decorative effect created by the use of contrasting brick colors on the façade. It is a valuable building, notable for the tasteful execution of its original facade decoration.
