Batumi, Tamar Mepe Avenue N16
Brief Description of the Monument:
The building is located in the city of Batumi, in the Makhinjauri settlement, at Tamar Mepe Avenue N16. Constructed in the 1950s, it has always functioned as the (Makhinjauri) Restaurant. Nearby, the resort houses (Mziuri) and (Narinji) also operated, and the restaurant served vacationers staying there.
In 2002, the building was privatized and is now owned by Vakhtang Rcheulishvili. It underwent rehabilitation both on the exterior façade and interior spaces. The structure is currently in good condition and remains operational.
The building is a synthesis of stone and wooden construction. Originally, it featured a brown-toned color scheme, but today it is painted white.
The structure is richly decorated with arched forms. The front and side façades are open with arcades adorned with dentils, supported by columns. The first floor is divided with oval and rectangular openings, decorated with imitation wimpergs resembling arrow-shaped portals, typical of Gothic architecture. The second floor is segmented with oval-shaped windows. The upper parts of the openings and balcony sections feature lattice-carved panels.
A balcony runs along the entire perimeter of the building, supported by decorative brackets. The structure is capped with a prominent projecting cornice, also adorned with ornamental brackets. A newer extension has been added to the rear façade. The overall appearance of the building is festive and ceremonial.
Thus, this building stands out as one of the rare examples of Batumi’s urban architectural heritage. It is of particular interest due to its compositional and planning layout and its imposing and celebratory aesthetic.
