Batumi, Vakhtang Gorgasali Street N42 / Nikoloz Baratashvili Street N37
Brief Description of the Building:
This one-story residential house was built in the early 20th century and occupies a corner lot with façades facing two streets. The building rests on a plinth that houses a basement, and the base is visually separated by a beveled cornice. Both façades are lined with rows of rectangular windows facing the streets. The windows are framed with plaster moldings, while the areas below the sills and above the lintels are decorated with geometric rectangular motifs.
The façades are plastered and painted in contrasting tones—sky blue for the wall surfaces and a lighter shade for the architectural details. The façades are topped with a profiled cornice, beneath which runs a frieze with a meander (Greek key) motif.
The tall main entrance is from Gorgasali Street, placed at the center of the façade. It features a double wooden carved door and a decorative wrought-iron canopy. There is also a smaller entrance from Baratashvili Street, also with a double door and a similar wrought-iron canopy.
The house has an L-shaped layout and includes a semi-open courtyard, separated from Baratashvili Street by a simple metal gate. The short façade facing the yard is blank (windowless), while the rear façade originally featured wooden gallery balconies, which are now partially enclosed or altered. There is also an extension on the left side of the building.
