Building at Akhmed Melashvili Street N7 / Zviad Gamsakhurdia Street N7, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This two-story brick building, typical of early 20th-century Batumi residential architecture, is located at the intersection of two streets. Its unplastered brick facade is divided into arched openings on one side and rectangular window openings on the other. The openings are adorned with brick-carved keystone stones and decorative sills. The central walls are flanked by pilasters. Additional decorative emphasis is given by a cornice with a stepped profile that divides the floors and a stepped cornice at the top of the facade.
An architectural highlight of the building is the four-winged wooden entrance door, which is intricately carved. The spatial layout of the entrance and the staircase is particularly interesting, with the marble steps leading to the second floor and connecting to the entryways of the apartments, which are also decorated with marble tiles. In contrast to the main staircase, the stairs leading to the mansard are made of wood and feature a wrought-iron railing.
The yard-facing facade shows significant damage from time, with a weathered timber frame.
This house is an excellent example of 20th-century Batumi residential architecture, and it plays an important role in the historical urban development of the street. Its distinctive architectural design contributes significantly to the overall character of the area.
