Building at Gari Merkviladze Street N1 / Baku Street N4-6, Batumi
Brief Description of the Building:
This two-story house, built in the early 20th century, was extended with a third floor a few years ago. The building has a longitudinal layout, with the main facade facing Gogebashvili Street. The building s lateral facade is integrated into the surrounding development, while the right side is open. The rear section of the building facing the yard has undergone significant alterations and has lost its original appearance.
The main facade is plastered and painted white. The first floor is commercially utilized, with large rectangular windows forming a continuous row. The second and third floors are also divided by rectangular window openings. Each facade has one metal, decorative balcony supported by brackets. The facade is decorated with architectural details such as rustication, pilasters with Ionic and Corinthian capitals, lintels, and corbels.
The building is topped with a strongly overhanging cornice and a parapet. The decoration on the main facade is mirrored on the lateral facade. While this building may not stand out in terms of high artistic value, it plays an important role in shaping the urban character and architecture of the specific neighborhood.
