Batumi, Petre Melikishvili Street No. 30
Brief description of the monument:
Constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, this two-story building is one of Batumi’s distinctive examples of Art Nouveau architecture. Its façade decoration, highlighted in white against the primary yellow backdrop, stands out for its clear individuality and rich detailing. Sculpted roses adorning rectangular window frames, lilies depicted beneath windows, and other plastically modeled decorative elements on the risalit blend organically with the intricate ironwork of balconies, ornamental wooden entrance doors, and the elegant design of transom windows.
Inside the entryway, particular attention is drawn to a curved wall panel, possibly originally painted, as well as the intricate iron railing of the staircase. Unfortunately, later extensions severely compromised the architectural authenticity of the glazed wooden veranda (shushabandi) facing the internal courtyard. A mansard floor added several years ago harmonizes relatively well with the historic structure in terms of its volume, texture, and articulation.
The building stands out due to the high quality of craftsmanship in decorative sculpture, wood carving, and metalwork, and the originality of its decorative features.
