Restoration of St. Mary Magdalene’s icon has completed in the laboratory of Adjara Cultural Heritage Protection Agency. Work on the icon was carried out within the framework of joint projects of Adjara Cultural Heritage Protection Agency and Adjara museum, while restoration works were led by the famous icon painter and restorer Mikheil Bogutsky.
The icon dates to the second half of the 19th century and in its restoration participated: a painter-restorer of the agency restoration laboratory called George Bolkvadze and artist of the Adjara museum Guram Gujabidze.
Today the restored icon was officially handed over to the Adjara museum. At the meeting Mr. Bogutsky extensively spoke about 19th century Christian orthodox iconography, restoration of St. Mary Magdalene’s icon, the accompanying difficulties and the methodological approaches to their solution.
