On September 2-3 of the current year, the traditional event – “Roman Festival 2023”, organized by the Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency of Adjara, was held in Gonio Fortress.

The casual lifestyle of Roman soldiers of I-III c. was revived on the territory of the fortress.

The event visitors attended antique theatrical etudes, gladiator fights, military camps of barbarians, dolls interactive theatre, Roman dances, revived antique drawings and statues, fire show, sports tournaments, choreographic spectacle “Legend on Argonauts”, etc.

Also, the visors were able to participate in the masterclass of battle art, Roman games and other activities.

The event aimed at reviving those antique traditions that took place in Gonio many centuries ago.
