Archeological excavations at Petra Fortress were carried out in the following districts of the inner fortress: the so- called "cistern" area of the building on the north-eastern part of the inner fortress. The building cleaned and prepared for the conservation.
The expadition explored the area to the west of the east gate. The wall of the annex of the basilica continued in a westerly direction. Presumably, the mentioned wall is a remnant of chronologically different buildings. The wall to the west ends in a semicircular pile that is enclosed the north annex of the basilica. This discoveri is a novelty. Preliminary observation suggest that the semicircular building overlooks the three - nave basilica, because it intersects with the north nave wall of the basilica and it may represent a previously disvovered early building.
Remains of a building previously considered to have been excacated in the interior of the three-nave basilica. In particular, the contours of its north and west walls were specified. The picture of the intersection of different periods appeared more clearly.
A fence made of flat and cabblestones was found, which joins the NW corners of the basilica narthex to the west and joins the remains of previously discovered fence wall to the north.
Archeological excavations were organized and financed by the Adjara Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency. The expadition will continue next year as well.
