The first international conference for guides was organized and held by the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Adjara. The second day of the conference started with a panel session. Zaur Akhvlediani, the Head of the Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency of Adjara, participated in the session “Tourism and museums – museum as a depository of cultural heritage and history”.
He spoke about the significance of the development of the archaeological-architectural complexes under the Agency: Gonio-Apsaros and Petra Fortress, as the most attractive tourist objects in the region; and he noted that the Agency works for the arrangement of the infrastructure of these locations and their popularization.
He also underlined the importance of sharing international experience and collaborating with foreign universities, scientific-research centres regarding the fields of archaeology, ethnology, architecture and preservation/restoration.
