Today the head of the Cultural Protection Agency of Adjara, Zaur Akhvlediani, visited the territory of Chkhutuneti Fortress, where an international archaeological expedition is underway.
The expedition is being carried out with the support of the Khelvachauri Municipality, within the framework of a joint project of the Niko Berdzenishvili Institute and Seattle University. The goal of the project is to conduct archaeological research of the Chkhutuneti Fortress and determine its historical and cultural role.
At this stage, the interior of the fortress, the territory of the tower and various types of structures related to it have already been examined. Zaur Akhvlediani personally inspected the works and expressed the agency s readiness to support the further restoration and conservation process of the Chkhutuneti Fortress.
