On the initiative of the Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency of Ajara and with support of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Ajara, Petra Fortress restoration started in 2015. The Agency purchased the restoration project of Petra Fortress and according to it realized rehabilitation of walls of the fortress.

The agency purchased the project of infrastructural arrangement of Petra Fortress in 2017. According to the project, works of the first stage have started in the museum-reserve: the arrangement of fence is going on this stage.  

It is planned to arrange a visitors’ centre, a car park, also ways, paths and places for banners for 2018.

It’s worth to mention here that the archaeologists found some extremely important things dated by VI century AD, such as: combat axes made by iron, daggers, spearheads, arrowheads, a helmet, remnants of a chain-armor and a shield, a great number of stoneware and a treasure (95 silver coins).
