Within the week dedicated to the international day for historical monuments and sites (April 17-20) the Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency of Ajara organized a cultural-cognitive tour about cultural heritage monuments (Petra Fortress, Okropilauri Fortress, Makhuntseti arched bridge, historical fortress complex of Akhaltsikhe, Gelati Monastery) for public schools’ pupils of Ajara Municipality, beneficiaries of NNLE center “Ialkani” and children with special educational needs. There was held the presentation “My heritage” that covered the essence, qualification, importance and patronage of cultural heritage.

The aims of the activities were raising awareness of cultural heritage and popularization of historical monuments and museums located in Ajara.

On the initiative of UNESCO and ICOMOS this day was established in 1983 and has celebrated since 1984.
