  • Batumi Virgin Church wall painting restoration started - 27 დეკემბერი, 2019

    On the initiative of Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency of Ajara, the rehabilitation project of the frescoes of Batumi Virgin Mary Cathedral was purchased in 2017 which wass prepared by the Art Conservation Centeer ( project manager Nana Kuprashvili ). Project preparation revaeled that the   main cause of frescoes demage was rainfall, which was flowing from the roof to the interior, that s why the roof was repaired this year and started its restoration. It was funded Gel 300000 by the foundation for the Rescue and Preservation of Historical Monuments of Georgia of the International Charity Foundation " Cartu".

    Batumi Virgin Mary Cathedral is one of the featured of Nineteenth- Twentieth cc Georgian Church Architecture and painting sample.It was built in 1897-1902  by the brothers Zubalashvilebi, by the request of European Catholics living in Batumi. The Soviet period Church was used for various purposes. An arvhieve and a high voltage laboratory were housed in the Church. From the 1990c by the decesion of Government  Adjara, building was given to the Georgian Orthodox Church

    Currently, the Church is the main Cathedral of Batumi and Lazeti Diocese.
