The Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency of Adjara was awarded a grant from the U.S. Embassy in the amount of 135000$ for the “Conservation of mosaic and adjacent areas discovered in Petra Fortress”.
The project aims to support the conservation of the mosaic and adjacent areas discovered in Petra Fortress, Adjara Region; to protect and maintain the features and values, which made the Fortress unique and prominent in respect of the historical context.
The Head of the Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency of Adjara, Zaur Akhvlediani, spoke about the significance of this fortress for the region and noted that the grant will be used for the conservation of the unique cultural heritage monument and discoveries of Petra Fortress. He also spoke about the importance of the fortress for the future generations.
U.S. Ambassador ROBIN L. DUNNIGAN visited the Petra Archaeological-Architectural Complex, familiarized herself with the history of the fortress and noted: “This fortress and all the artefacts found in it, are a true sign that Georgia was always the part of Europe, and this represents the link of your country and Europe since the VI c. The USA is glad that it can enable the future generations to visit this wonderful historical place”.
