The archaeological field works were renewed on the territory of Pichvnari old cemetery with the financial support of the Cultural Heritage Protection Agency of Ajara. In particular: on the Colchian and Greek cemeteries of IV c. BC, as well as, on the Hellenistic cemeteries. (The head of the expedition – Archaeologist Emzar Kakhidze).
In recent years, hundreds of graves were studied on the said territory and the artefacts found there speak about the close relationships between the Colchian and Hellenistic worlds.
In the current year, the Colchian and Greek cemeteries of IV c. BC, as well as, the Hellenistic cemeteries will be studied. Nowadays, up to 10 graves and 2 agapes were discovered, where imported and local ceramics, Colchian coins, a silver plate and an iron bracelet were found. (The budget – 60 000 GEL).
