On 10th October, 2018 Archaeological Museum of Ajara with financial support of Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency of Ajara renovated researches and excavations in the area of Fichvnari town ruins. Archaeologists work in two areas:
I area: Town ruins on hill of Namcheduri (Namcheduri I).
Archaeologists work on late classic period’s cultural layers on East part of the hill. They found parts of stuccoed floor and wall. These ruins are connected with a joint complex of dwelling and economic buildings. Reconstruction of the complex and ascertain of its demension will be possible after excavating the whole area. A small amount of parts of wine pitcher, amphora and other types of utensil fragments and a whorl of spindle were discovered.
II area: Namcheduri II, located on the North part of Namcheduri hill (250-300 metres distanced from Namcheduri I).
Hellenistic and classic periods cultural layers are studied. Alike the first area some parts of stuccoed floor and cobbled square were found there as well. Further more, fragments of earthen bowls, wine pitchers, pots, tiles, amphoras, black ceramic utensils, stone weights of a fishing net, parts of a sikle and beads were discovered.
The ruins on the both area represent multi-layer monuments. The study of these ruins gives the possibility to examine chronologically separate stages of development of society from the Late Bronze Age (the II half of the II millennium BC) including the Hellenistic Age (late I millennium BC).
